Being a Tourist -- Almost

John and I were thinking about the fact that we used to go on short trips a lot...of course that was before we had the dogs!  Now it seems that all of our activities revolve around 'doggie parks'

so yesterday we left the dogs in the back yard (ok...we took them to the doggie park first ) and John and I went to Hampton and took the 'Harbor Cruise'.

It was really fun!  We got to see Ft. Monroe from the water side and then went to Ft. Wool -- which is a man-made island fort where this very VERY scary guy told us stuff (I think he was a drill instructor in a prior life!)....and then we went past the Navy ships in Norfolk.

The narrator was pretty good and he told us all about the ships in the harbor.  I'd attach some pictures, except we forgot our camera...which I guess is about as good as remembering the camera and then not taking any pictures!

It was a nice day!

Unshopping

I went 'unshopping' this past Sunday.

I needed to buy a pretty dress to wear to the DAR function in DC last week, and I wasn't sure which one would fit (ok...so I really thought it MIGHT be possible to lose 20 pounds in 3 days

I've heard of other people doing it....so I bought 3 different dresses and 2 pairs of shoes (2 of the dresses were the same color, so I could wear the same shoes with either).

I picked my favorite to wear, and had the other stuff to return.

It was really easy!  and I just felt a teeny bit self-conscious.

I must admit that the 'unshopping' went a lot faster than the real shopping trip the weekend before!

Off to Indy

I was talking to my landlord (at the office) this week and he mentioned that he was going to Indianapolis this weekend for a little car race.  We were both surprised to find out that we were spending the holiday in the same town!

Sophie is coming home from the doggie hospital today (she had surgery on both of her front shoulders) and John and Rufus are going to be here to help her recover.  Yep...they get to try to keep Sophie quiet.

And....

My son Mike has started a new family blog, and he has already uploaded some great photos!

Have a great day!

Spring

I like Spring....and I've  noticed that every day I repeat the same things....

Spring has sprung
the grass has riz
I wonder where the flowers is?

and another favorite
April Showers bring May Flowers,
What do MayFlowers bring?
Pilgrims.

I know...kinda silly....but it makes me laugh!

A different kind of file drawer

Some of you remember how we used to keep important information on some sort of paper record.  Addresses were in the address book that (I'm told) was used to send out Christmas Cards (I guess I never really got that memo).  Phone numbers were in a little book that was kept by the phone (that was also much easier because we only had one phone in the house). And things we wanted to remember were either put in our diary or in a manilla folder in the file cabinet.

Now, I keep my addresses in my Outlook or Yahoo contact tab.

I keep phone numbers in my cell phoneS.  and when we meet someone, we hand him/her our phone and they enter their number themselves.

I used to keep paper copies of my taxes and used that info to do my taxes the next year (using lots of paper and pencils).  Now, I use Turbo tax so things are automatically copied over every year and when I use the calculator to compute things, I just hit the button and the computed value is automatically input in the box.

and I use my Xanga blog to keep track of things.  For example, I now have the names of all of my grandchildren and great-grandchildren here...(I just need to remember that it's here )

and I have also used Xanga recently to compare the size of our new puppy (Sophie) to our older puppy (yep...he's still a puppy even at 2) Rufus.  Sophie was 37.5 pounds at about the same age that Rufus was weighing in at 14 pounds.

And now...Rufus is 52 pounds at age 2 years and 2 months....and Sophie is 47.5 pounds at age 5 months.,,,which I thought was big....and then I saw a labradoodle last weekend that made Sophie look tiny.... guess I'd better keep an eye out for that Great Dane!

Oh....and I was just thinking about what I do with all of the free time I have now that everything is so automated.....I think my mind jumps around a lot!
